Caterpillar Soup and the Call of the Mystic

(April 2007)

After a caterpillar has built its cocoon, it goes through a very real meltdown, where it digests itself into a caterpillar soup.  Within this liquid chaos, is hidden the potential for new order just waiting to be expressed.  As the perfection of nature and all of creation intended, new cells called ‘imaginal cells’ emerge, feeding on this soup.   They are totally different from the caterpillar cells and resonate at a different frequency.  So different, that the immune system of the caterpillar recognizes them as invaders and ingest them.  But it is soon a loosing battle for the caterpillar cells, as the ‘imaginal cells’ are multiplying faster than they can be ingested.  These new frequency cells, resonating together, start forming groups and then large clusters of organized cells and so out of this chaos, emerges a totally new life form, the butterfly!

Would you ever considered the coherent, inspiring metamorphosis of caterpillars into butterflies, as a powerful metaphor for the transfiguration awaiting those that choose the invitation to move beyond being near the Light, to consciously stepping into the Light?

…and to the cascading metaphor of the ‘imaginal cells’, as individuals emerging from this awakening carrying within them new possibilities and seeds of the New World?

As we progress on our spiritual journey, we move through many awakenings and transformations that guide us closer to the Light.  Every time choosing deeper commitments, that allow the unfolding of insights and personal healings, which in turn also allow us to navigate through life with greater clarity and power.

Stepping into the Light, rather than being close to the Light, is likened to the subtlety between a choice and a calling.   The call of the mystic in you is an unequivocal and compelling yearning from within, to follow the guidance of your Soul and enter an intimate relationship with the Divine.  It is not spurred by the need to heal the physical or emotional body or any other part of your life; it is always for more than yourself.
